AI Coding Companies to know

We included companies whose main product is an AI coding assistant, an AI IDE, a coding agent, or a code-generation platform for building software. We selected using public signals as of October 2026: reported funding and valuation, reported revenue or user numbers, enterprise adoption, and press coverage. We left out general model labs whose coding tools are one product among many (Anthropic's Claude Code, OpenAI's Codex), because they belong in a model-provider directory. We also left out companies that were acquired and folded into another company on this list (Windsurf/Codeium into Cognition, Supermaven into Cursor). Cursor stays on the list because it still runs as its own product as a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX.

Frequently asked questions

What are the largest AI coding companies in 2026?

By reported valuation, Cognition raised a $2B Series E at a $48B post-money valuation in September 2026. SpaceX agreed in April 2026 to acquire Cursor (Anysphere) in an all-stock deal reported at $60B and closed it in August 2026. Lovable was valued at $13.3B in August 2026, Replit at $9B in March 2026, and Factory at $5B in September 2026. GitHub, which makes Copilot, is owned by Microsoft.

What is the difference between an AI coding assistant and a coding agent?

An AI coding assistant, such as GitHub Copilot's completion and chat, suggests code while a developer works in the editor. A coding agent, such as Cognition's Devin, Factory's Droids or Amp, takes on multi-step tasks or whole tickets on its own and returns the result for human review. Many products now do both: Copilot added an agent mode in February 2025 and a coding agent in May 2025, and Cursor runs agents inside its editor.

How do prompt-to-app builders like Lovable, Replit and Bolt.new differ from AI IDEs like Cursor?

Lovable, Replit Agent and Bolt.new build and deploy whole applications from natural-language prompts, so people with little coding experience can use them. AI IDEs such as Cursor and Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) are editors for professional developers working in existing codebases. In those editors, agents edit files and run multi-step programming tasks.

What happened to Windsurf and Supermaven?

Cognition acquired the agentic IDE Windsurf in July 2025 and renamed it Devin Desktop in June 2026. Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, acquired Supermaven in 2024.

Which AI coding companies focus on code review and testing?

Qodo (formerly CodiumAI), based in Tel Aviv, is built around AI code review and code quality, including multi-agent pull-request review and cross-repository review. It raised a $70M Series B led by Qumra Capital in March 2026. Cursor offers Bugbot for GitHub pull-request review and acquired the code-review startup Graphite in December 2025.
